Have you always disregarded white jeans out of fear of how they’ll look and how to wear them? Not any longer...

White jeans have a reputation of being notoriously hard to wear with Glamour hailing them ‘fashion’s most unforgiving item’. But don’t let that put you off, whilst they can be hard to style, when done right white jeans can give a fresh update to your favourite shirts and blouses.

“The first rule of white jeans is never go for a skinny style, unless Elizabeth Hurley is the style muse you’re channelling.” says Emma Thatcher, Stylist and Co-Founder of A Style Album. High or mid rise, cropped at the ankle or just above, straight leg or kick flare styles are the styles you should consider when it comes to white jeans. Thatcher adds, “not only are straight leg and kick flare styles more flattering but also more wearable – tucking a blue chambray shirt in to white skinnies can look dated, but tucked in to white straight legs looks cool.”

How to style white jeans the Alla Moda way:

1 – White denim stands out more than blue so looks best worn with a casual top layer like a t-shirt or a blouse.

2 – When wearing white jeans you can really play with colour on top, whether its a bright red hue or softer pastel blue, experiment and see which colour combinations work for you.

3 – Outerwear can be kept simple and often the same pieces you wear with blue denim looks even better against white. Khaki shackets, leather jackets and belted military style jackets all look great. If you’re brave enough to do double denim then an indigo blue denim jacket makes a lovely contrast.

4 – Mainly stick to flat shoes as heels can over power the whole look – loafers, mules, trainers and sandals each work well dependent on the temperature. Monochrome shoe colours are best and backless styles add the perfect spring touch.

5 – Whilst there’s no denying white jeans aren’t as practical as other offerings, don’t allow that to prevent you from wearing them. Just ensure you have some Vanish to hand (and stay away from the red wine).
